La Herradura and the Costa Tropical

La Herradura is a small seaside village situated in a beautiful horseshoe bay on the mediterranean coast of Granada in the south of Spain. The 2 kilometers long beach is protected by two rocky headlands, Punta de la Mona at the east end of the bay and Cerro Gordo to the west.

Costa Tropical is the name given to the 73 km coastline of Granada province in Andalusia. Although no longer Spain's best kept secret, the Costa Tropical remains relatively unspoilt. The Sierra Almijara mountains meet the mediterranean along this coast, forming dozens of secluded coves and beaches bounded by sheer cliffs that are only accessible on foot or by boat. Cerro Gordo at the west end of La Herradura bay is part of one of Spain's protected natural parks, the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo.
